He also shares his favourite superfood recipe and gives us a look at what his daily diet looks like.

Registration for the CrossFit Open Starts Today

20130131-084156.jpg

It’s that time of year folks!

Where thousands of hopefuls set out for a shot at the title of ‘fittest on earth’.

The road to the CrossFit games starts now.

It’s time for the world wide Open.

Registration opens today for the largest fitness competition on the planet, where anyone, anywhere, with a camera has a shot at proving themselves as the best CrossFitter in the world.

This will be my first year competing and needless to say I’m both nervous and excited.

We here at 180 have the privilege of having access to some of the best CrossFitters in the world (through our awesome team of sponsored athletes) and as such will be asking them for their tips for other first time competitors looking to make their mark in the sport.

You can register yourself here: CrossFit Games Registration

Good luck folks, we here at 180 can’t wait to see what this year’s games season brings!

Why do you train?

I had an interesting discussion abut training with some friends on the weekend.

20130129-151135.jpg

My group of mates are all into fitness and rarely do we get together and not discuss training, at least a little bit.

It’s been interesting to watch our reasons for training and therefore our methods change over the years, from sports team practices, to wanting six packs and then pursuing performance based goals.

It’s my belief that every single person should follow some sort of fitness regime. We’re becoming a more sedentary society, reliant on technology and the convenience of fast food. But having a background as PT, commitment and consistency is generally what causes people to fall of the fitness bandwagon.

Consistency only comes when you have a clear cut reason for being in the gym. We post and preach all things CrossFit here, because all of us at 180 are hooked on becoming better CrossFit athletes. Many yoga lovers practice their craft for its mental and physical benefits and to relieve some of the stresses of everyday life and bodybuilders do 12 types of curls a session to try and secure a win in their next show.

Figuring out your reason for training is the first and arguably most important step towards starting a successful training routine.

Stu gets ‘Bigger, Smaller, Bigger’

By Khan Porter
There’s a reason we call Stu ‘The Whippet’. He’s a sprightly fellow, however, hopefully not for much longer.

After doing CrossFit for the last six months Stu’s become so lean that ocean swimming (a favourite pass time of his) has become more like taking an ice bath and each session is getting notably shorter due to the poor Stu being unbearably cold.

So in this edition of 180 seconds or less, we join Khan and Stu on the couch and chat about Stu’s new dietary and strength training endeavor, in which he’s looking to put his days of Whippetry behind him and become more of a Rottweiler, or better yet Great Dane.

The diet is based on the “Bigger Smaller Bigger” plan, put together by fitness and nutrition experts Dr John Beradi, Martin Rooney and Nate Green. They claim it helped Green pack on a massive 20lbs in 28 days, so we’re looking forward to seeing what it does for Stu!

Introducing 180 Performance

By Khan Porter

Guy: What’s this 180 Performance thing I hear you ask?

Good question! When Stu and I first started out, we basically pointed ourselves roughly in the direction we wanted to go and then rolled with it along the way. Even though we’re not too hung up on the outcome, we’ve always asked ourselves these questions:

  1. How can we add value to our customers? and
  2. How can we continue to improve 180 Nutrition as a company?

I’m a big fan of hanging out with people who are smarter than me (not hard I know!) that have skills and knowledge that I want to learn from. So we began to put a team together (learn more about them here) who I will be introducing more over the next few weeks, that will be contribute more to our blog and social channels etc. So everything remains the same (like our existing FB page), we are just adding more value.

Along with this 180 Performance was born. This is a space where a growing number of athletes will contribute and share their thoughts and knowledge.

Ever wondered what they eat before training? Or how they prepare for competition? Or how they rapidly reduce body fat a week before an event?

So over to one of our new team members, Mr Khan Porter. He’ll be overseeing more of the 180 Performance Facebook channel, so I’ll let him introduce the channel and himself a little more. Over to you Khan… Continue reading

Wonder what it takes to become a sports fitness model? Then meet Angeline

sports modelBy Guy Lawrence

Guy: I met Angeline Norton (pictured above) at Sydney’s Filex fitness expo earlier on this year. With enough protein supplements and chemical potions to make your head spin, it was refreshing to meet a sports/fitness model who was passionate about what they put in their body and doesn’t buy into all the hype.

Impressed with her approach to health and sports modelling and an all round great girl, I asked Angeline if she would share some of her tips on what it takes to get that sports modelling look… Enjoy! Continue reading
