Introducing 180 Performance

By Khan Porter

Guy: What’s this 180 Performance thing I hear you ask?

Good question! When Stu and I first started out, we basically pointed ourselves roughly in the direction we wanted to go and then rolled with it along the way. Even though we’re not too hung up on the outcome, we’ve always asked ourselves these questions:

  1. How can we add value to our customers? and
  2. How can we continue to improve 180 Nutrition as a company?

I’m a big fan of hanging out with people who are smarter than me (not hard I know!) that have skills and knowledge that I want to learn from. So we began to put a team together (learn more about them here) who I will be introducing more over the next few weeks, that will be contribute more to our blog and social channels etc. So everything remains the same (like our existing FB page), we are just adding more value.

Along with this 180 Performance was born. This is a space where a growing number of athletes will contribute and share their thoughts and knowledge.

Ever wondered what they eat before training? Or how they prepare for competition? Or how they rapidly reduce body fat a week before an event?

So over to one of our new team members, Mr Khan Porter. He’ll be overseeing more of the 180 Performance Facebook channel, so I’ll let him introduce the channel and himself a little more. Over to you Khan… Continue reading

Are diet sodas a healthy choice?

Diet Soda Health Risks

By Guy Lawrence

“They may be free of calories but not of consequences.” - Professor Helen Hazuda speaking on diet soda.

After knocking the wind out of my mates sails regarding his healthy fruit salad and apple juice (click here if you’ve no idea what I’m on about), the next topic that came up on the radar was his diet soft drink. You see, the next logical step for my friend to take whilst on his weight loss plan was to be drinking the ‘diet’ stuff instead of  ’normal’ stuff.

I mean, if a soft drink has the word ‘diet’, ‘sugar free’ or ‘low cal’ etc… It’s got to be healthy for you right?

His new found enthusiasim for his health and weight loss plan had already taken a dent regarding fruit and sugar, so I understood the switch to sugar free soft drinks. After he finished guzzling down his cold can on a sunny day I said one word to him… Aspartame.

In a nutshell, this was my response…

Why London life, a dutch barman & that damn quote has led me to try & find my rhythm

London lifeBy Guy Lawrence

“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you ought to set up a life you don’t need to escape from”Seth Godin, Tribes

my 40 day challenge

Like all good challenges, one way of helping me commit is to go public with it. I’ve volunteered my time for a study, nothing too harsh or serious, but a 40 day challenge never-the-less! It’s a challenge that will enhance me as a person but doesn’t sit well as it intimidates me slightly and I have to be committed.

What’s the challenge? I have to sit and meditate twice a day for 40 days. 15 minutes upon waking and 15 minutes before bed. Just sit there quietly, curbing my thoughts and being as present and in the moment as I can. So there will be no hitting the snooze button in the morning or fitting in one more game of Words With Friends at night.

“Keep your distractions to a minimum” I’m told by the girls at Thriving Minds, and keep a record of any changes within myself for 40 days. Sounds easy right? I’m not so sure, but I’m going to give it a go anyway.

Why am I doing this? Good question! To answer this we have to turn back the clock about 7 years to be exact, as it all started from that damn quote I read! And just like a dodgy ABBA song, it wouldn’t  leave me alone. Continue reading

My Vibram five finger shoes review: How to alienate your feet & influence people

vibram five finger shoesBy Guy Lawrence

“The human foot is a work of art and a masterpiece of engineering.”
—Leonardo Da Vinci

“Sorry, can you say that again? I was staring at your shoes!”

“All you need is a set of hairy black gloves and you’ll be set mate”

“How can I ever take anything you say seriously again! I hope you don’t walk round in public with those things on”

These are just some of the comments I’ve been receiving lately, so I thought I’d review these five fingers. When you buy a set of Vibram shoes, I don’t know why they don’t state on the box ‘helps develop thick skin too!’ What a marketing ploy that would be. Continue reading

Walking the path less traveled……. Have you the courage to live authentically?

Path_Less_TravelledBy Eleasa Mullavey

“Whatever receives your time and attention becomes
the focus of your life”
-Unknown

Have you ever felt there is something missing in your life? Perhaps noticed a niggle deep in the back of your mind? Or maybe you’ve reached a landmark birthday… 30, 40 or 50 and found yourself wondering, how did I get here? What am I doing with my life? Why aren’t I happy yet? Or perhaps you have everything you ever thought you wanted (house, car, job earning mega bucks), yet still feel somehow unsatisfied? Sound familiar? I hear this over and over again from clients.

But why is this? There is no doubt a range of reasons. In many cases it comes down to whether one is living in line with their true values. Continue reading
