Why I do not drink tap water

Is_tap_water_safe?By Guy Lawrence

“Less than 10 countries world wide fluoridate more than 50% of their water supplies – so why do we have it here in Australia?”

Guy: Unless you live under a rock or watch too much daytime TV, you probably know there’s an ongoing debate on whether we should be drinking our tap water (mainly because of fluoride). From dumbing our intelligence down through our pineal gland to causing cancer, fluoride is under the microscope and it all feels a little X-Files. Just type in ‘fluoride side effects’ into google and you will see what I mean.

What does concern me though is that most of Continental Europe does not fluoridate water. You can view the list here.

So when Naturopath Tania Flack started to research the state on Sydney/Australia water and came back with this post, I was trying to figure out if I was completely shocked or actually not surprised at all! Either way, this is why I avoid drinking Australian tap water.  Over to Tania… Continue reading

A healthy snack for the kids (& adults): Caroline’s birthday muffins

By Guy Lawrence

I asked Caroline if she would mind filming one of her many magic healthy recipes, and she has kindly filmed this video for us. A simple healthy snack for the kids in the shape of muffins she made for her nephews birthday recently. The feedback I got was that it wasn’t only the kids eating these muffins! Continue reading

The good, the fat & the ugly: The top 5 fats I eat daily

good fatsBy Guy Lawrence

Eat your good fats. How often do you hear that? The fear of fat is certainly changing, but how often does someone say I can’t eat that as it contains too much fat! I think the fat free consumer is still very much here but things are slowly changing.

The purpose of this post is to help with the confusion around fat. What is good fat and which fats are just plain ugly. I’ve found over time I generally have certain fats in my daily diet and there are a whole host that I do my best to avoid. I don’t worry about the calories, I only worry about the type of fats. I wrote a post here if you want to delve into fats more. And why is there a fat 1970′s cowboy dancing? Not sure but we liked the picture!  Continue reading

CrossFit Journey Part IV: A typical WOD session at CrossFit Bare

By Guy Lawrence

What is CrossFit? I’m still struggling with this question when I get asked. But when I tell people the first thing I do in the morning is check the CrossFit Bare website to see what today’s WOD is, I usually get two responses that go something like this:

  1. Uh? Don’t you think that’s a little obsessive? What’s wrong with you mun!
  2. Wow…Really! What’s a WOD? Tell me more…

This post is dedicated to the latter…

Can I eat honey and agave syrup if I am trying to lose body fat?

Is honey healthyBy Guy Lawrence

‘For all but the last few hundred years (a heartbeat on the genetic evolution time scale), really sweet foods have been difficult to find.’ – David Gillespie

Sugar… It’s a delicate topic. Unless you’ve been living in a cave lately, you will know that sugar has been copping a lot of flack from the media over recent times (and rightly so I feel). But even with all this media attention, it still washes over many people’s heads and gets thrown into the all too hard basket, with my mate included.

I’ve been guiding my mate now for quite some time with the misconceptions of weight loss and his health kick. He felt that eating fruit salad would help his weight loss plan, counting calories and drinking diet sodas was a healthy choice, following the food pyramid was  beneficial and hours and hours of running a week was going to improve his health. Then I challenged him and his way of thinking and asked him to reconsider his approach, and thankfully he has so far.

We caught up for a cuppa and a chat recently, and as he puts a great big spoonful of honey in his tea, he looks at me and says “this is ok isn’t it? I mean, it’s natural right?”

He then tells me he’s stirring lots of agave syrup into his porridge in the morning too. O’ dear… Continue reading

Start the year the right way with *I Quit Sugar* eBook by Sarah Wilson

sarah_wilson_ebookBy Guy Lawrence

Are you are about to roll into the New Year on a health kick? Why not do it with a little support and community to encourage you on?

Every once in a while something comes along that I will happily and shamelessly plug, simply because it’s really that good!

In my view, one of the most fundamental actions you can take to improving your overall health is kicking the sugar habit. Sarah Wilson’s eBook: I Quit Sugar has captured this beautifully.

Not sure if you have ever tried getting off the sweet stuff, but as simplistic as it sounds, Continue reading
