Why I do not drink tap water

“Less than 10 countries world wide fluoridate more than 50% of their water supplies – so why do we have it here in Australia?”

Guy: Unless you live under a rock or watch too much daytime TV, you probably know there’s an ongoing debate on whether we should be drinking our tap water (mainly because of fluoride). From dumbing our intelligence down through our pineal gland to causing cancer, fluoride is under the microscope and it all feels a little X-Files. Just type in ‘fluoride side effects’ into google and you will see what I mean.

What does concern me though is that most of Continental Europe does not fluoridate water. You can view the list here.

So when Naturopath Tania Flack started to research the state on Sydney/Australia water and came back with this post, I was trying to figure out if I was completely shocked or actually not surprised at all! CrossFit journey part II. Measuring my body fat percentage with the Dexa scan

A big thanks to the guys at MeasureUp in Sydney for helping me get an extremely accurate reading of my body fat, muscle mass, bone density and overall weight. It’s a very cool machine and a fantastic place to start if you are serious about tracking yourself whilst on any kind of health journey.

The first thing I asked Luke (who is also a gun CrossFitter & coach at CrossFit Active in North Sydney) is how accurate are they? He said accurate enough for the Wallabies rugby union team and Hugh Jackman (would be interesting to see Wolverine’s x-ray) to be using it… Sold! That was enough for me…

At the end of the consultation they also give you a very groovy looking report with several scans and x-rays of your body, with my body fat being in orange and muscle mass in red. I’ll let you guess what the blue is!

Ever wondered if vitamin pills actually work?

You would like to think so with Americans now spending an estimated $28 billion a year! This is a figure that has doubled over the last 15 years and continues to grow.

With that kind of turnover, it is an industry that wouldn’t appreciate what Time journalist John Cloud had to say on the matter.

John Cloud did the self experiment following the regime of a US vitamin company over 5 months. He was prescribed 22 vitamins a day along with protein bars and pysllium fibre.

The result?

Weight loss is on the ‘headlines’ menu

You can tell summer is coming, I have just typed ‘weightloss’ into google news and I find it quite  incredible the headlines I see staring back at me!

The secrets regarding Kirstie Alleys 100lb weight loss. The article goes on to say how she parted ways with Jenny Craig after losing 75lbs and plateaued. Nothing to do with money?

The there’s the vinegar diet. Is this for real? What kind of weight loss strategy is that!

The Oxford Times are saying that more people should be given costly weight-loss surgery to save the NHS money in the long run. Has it really come to this? We recently posted an article on the future of health care here in Australia. Surely a more pro-active approach to weight loss and maintaining health is needed?

So if you are needing to lose weight and not become another health concerned statistic, maybe it’s time to think twice before you listen to the potential trappings of what the media have to say on the topic of weight loss. They have to continually print news and create noise to stay in business after all.

Weight loss needn’t be complicated. It just means the basics need to be done well over a longer period of time. Glamorous? No. Effective? Yes.
